The Competition

Introduction

Organized as a competition, Science Buskers Festival will serve as an excellent platform to spread key messages relating to the importance of inspiring an interest in science. During the competition, contestants will do a “show-and-tell” on any science topic, and judging will be based on audiences’ votes and judges’ scores.

Attractive cash prizes are to be won! In addition, the top 3 winners will walk away with a 1-year renewable Science Centre Contract!

Judging

Who are the Judges?

The judges would be chosen from a mix of professionals from the science and education industry.


Judging Criteria used by Judges for Audition, Busking and Final rounds:

Score Judging Criteria
20% Ability to perform the show smoothly
20% Ability to communicate effectively
20% Ability to engage the audience well
20% Ability to demonstrate the science concept creatively
20% Ability to understand the science supporting the demonstration

Prizes

Attractive prizes to be won at the Final round!

  • D’ Science Busker – Champion
    $1,000 cash and 1-year renewable Science Centre Contract where you will be engaged to perform on a per need basis (with remunerations)
  • First Runner-up
    $500 cash and 1-year renewable Science Centre Contract where you will be engaged to perform on a per need basis (with remunerations)
  • Second Runner-up
    $300 cash and 1-year renewable Science Centre Contract where you will be engaged to perform on a per need basis (with remunerations)

Special Awards

  • Most Popular Online Video-clip Award – $150 cash
  • Best Dressed Award – $150 cash
  • Best Teamwork Award – $150 cash
  • Best Stage Presence Award – $150 cash
  • Best Communicator Award – $150 cash
  • Best Group Supporters Award – $500 cash

Participate

To join the competition for busking

  • Please register here.
  • The competition is open to anyone aged between 7 and 70. As long as you have the interest to showcase your creativity in science communication, you can join the competition as an individual or a team with your family/friends!
  • The registration period is from 5 March to 31 July 2010!

Important note:

  • Bonus for early bird registration – For those who have sent in their application forms or will be sending in the application forms by 30 June 2010, you will be entitled a 10% bonus vote for the Busking round! That means, if you have received 100 votes at the end of the Busking round, we will give you an additional of 10 votes to top it up to 110 votes in your pockets!
