Week
1 Answer:
Last
week Science Spark looked at how you listen to
what people say. Do you always hear what you think
you have heard? The question posed was:
What
did she say?
a) KAKA
b) BABA
In
fact, both answers are correct depending on what
you have been paying attention to. If you have
been lip reading, you will find that she is actually
mouthing the word KAKA. But the voice over is
BABA. So for those of you who use your ears more
than your eyes, you would hear the word BABA.
That
means from of our pool of results, 34% of people
tend to lip-read, whereas the remaining 66% prefer
listening.
Lip
reading does play an important part in helping
us hear more clearly. Especially in a noisy party,
visual input can help us focus on a particular
conversation and not get distracted by all the
other noise around us.
